In the year 2040 amidst a world where youth tribes are battling for 'cryptocurrency' control, a mysterious designer drug has created a new social economy
Developed initially for relationship counselling, the drug 'Dice' helped couples to share dreams. The city’s electric dance music (EDM) tribes were the first to discover the drugs social applications, recruiting and selling access to popular dreamers. Known as ‘Channels’ they were also used to mine 'dreamcoin'.
When Channels began turning up in comas, investigations revealed that tribes were attacking each other in an underground death match game. ‘Dream Death’ lead to coma with control of the dream and their 'dreamcoin' wealth passing to the killer.
Dice was declared illegal and driven underground.
With the promise of fame and wealth young people rushed to join The Dream Channel. Authorities labelled it as “the ecstasy of social networks”.
The story follows a young woman - LUCY - who competing gangs regard as the key to owning and controlling The Dream Channel.
THE CITY'S TALENT SHOW
Social networks have expanded to control entire cities! The city of Los Angeles - now called LUCYDIA - has been transformed into a talent show 'city'- Tribes fight each other to own and acquire the best talent in the city and to require payments to them in their own own 'cryptocurrency' - all part of their strategy to control the city's economy.
LUCYDIA has been re-created on-line allowing audiences to join the film and become characters in the story.
The city's social network runs the city and gives all residents a ranking based on recommendations
In each sector residents elect their stars - these 'characters' become the stars of the city and its story.
Characters are recycled in and out of a weekly web series & voted into feature film by residents. - every blog post and every photo story about their daily lives adds to the story.
Dream Channel is the place where reality and fiction are combined to tell a story.
Every dream has its price.
Lucy, a 27 year old lucid dreamer, wakes up one morning to discover that her dreams have been stolen by her boyfriend and sold on the black market. When the dream turns up on The Dream Channel – the YouTube of dreams - she becomes the reluctant star of a futuristic game show. After a series of attempts by males to own her and a number of attempts by rival lucid dreamers to assassinate her, Lucy is forced to enter her dream as a contestant and win her dream world back. Lucy wins her own game show, takes over The Dream Channel but loses her soul.
Final auditions will take place in the form of a death match game show / web series. Here contestants are injected in a Running Man style zone - inside they face off in death matches. Audiences vote on outcomes. Ultimately the winners star in the feature!
